Typically, manufacturing companies use fixtures for manufacturing their products. Fixtures are used to maintain the position of the item to be produced. This means that when changing from one production piece to another, it will have a different geometry and therefore need a new fixture. This changing time in production is very costly but also need human action which can often lead to dangerous situations – for example, entrapment of fingers or large items falling down. Furthermore, by introducing a new product in the production, it will require a new geometry for the fixture. So, the challenge is to propose a multi-functional and multi-positionable fixture, which can easily be repositioned or reconfigured.
The solution typically addresses manufacturers working with assembly- or welding operations such as automotive, railway, aviation but all kinds of producers with mid- to small batches and changeovers can benefit from the solution.
Currently, there are already systems on the market, however, the limitation of these systems are on the geometry itself which is predefined by the constraint in the displacement, as it is fixed to few possibilities, or they are very expensive solutions with complete automatic robotic solutions.
